Bernice Denney Starke, 84, of Marshall, TX passed away July 27, 2022 in Marshall surrounded by her loving family. She was born October 20, 1937 in Marshall to Burney Denney and Ruth Rodney Brown Denney in the family home. Ms. Denney, otherwise known as “skinny Denney” to her classmates graduated from Marshall High School in 1956. She would keep in contact with those classmates through out the years and even met for a weekly lunch date with them. She married John “Ebb” Starke April 18, 1958 in Marshall, he would precede her in death on February 2, 2001 after almost 43 years of marriage. Mrs. Starke went to work for Marshall National Bank after graduating from high school and would work in most areas of the bank through the years up until her retirement in 2001. Mrs. Starke enjoyed spending time with her family, especially those grand and great grandchildren, loved to read, work crossword puzzles, and hanging out with her classmates.
Mrs. Starke is survived by her daughters: Rhonda Saintignan and her husband Ronnie of Jefferson and Fern Krc and her husband Jim of Marshall; grandchildren: Luke Saintignan and his wife Missy of Kilgore, Kristin Roberts and her husband Tim of Beckville, and Lyndy Green and her husband Kraig of Marshall; great grandchildren: Rheagan and Ava Saintignan, Nick Roberts, Zoey Tello, Kaleb and Haven Green. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, sister, Patsy Griffin and brother, Jimmy Denney. The family would like to say, “Thank you” to the staff at Reunion Inn for the compassionate care given to our mother during her stay there.
A celebration of Mrs. Starke’s life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 29, 2022 at the Travis Street Chapel of the Sullivan Funeral Home, Marshall, TX with a time of visitation to immediately follow the services. Flowers are permitted or memorials may be made in her honor to alz.org/donate.
